Pharmacy is the word which has been derived from the Greek word 'pharmakon' which means poison or medicine. Pharmaceutical science has been in practice for thousands of years; it is a unique profession and also very vital for the subsistence of the human beings as it involves the mixture of chemical science with health sciences. Pharmacy determines the effective and safe use of drugs/medicines which are used for the treatment of different illnesses.
Most people’s say. Galen a Greek physician and surgeon is considered as the father of pharmacy Galen's most famous medicinal formula was Theriac, an herbal jam or electuary with some 64 different ingredients that was a virtual panacea or cure-all for many diseases, and an antidote to many poisons. But I’m not sure pharmacy has a “father” figure! Many peoples & cultures across the globe developed some sort of pharmacopeia, either written down or passed orally from one practitioner to the next. The Ebers Papyrus is the oldest written pharmacopeia that I can think of. Perhaps Hippocrates could be credited with being the “father” of pharmacy, as his writings contained many notes on things used to treat illness also some peoples considers al-chemist (jabir bin hayyan) is a father of chemistry and pharmacy too.
The concept refers to the science dedicated to the preparation and combination of products that serve to maintain or restore health and pharmacy is the profession that consists of this activity and the place where the professional specialized in these issues works called the pharmacist and a pharmacy is a place where medicines are sold and compounded. Modern day pharmacies however are not limited to selling medicines. They also provide clinical services, review medications for safety and provide drug information and etc.
In present time based on my experience, Pharmacy has been discovered as business plan, because you hardly, can find somebody who has pharmacy achievements. For example pharmacists like pharmacist known as businessmen more than scientists unfortunately!
When I started University i thought that this profession is matter of science, but when you, study deeply you will understand a bitter truth behind.
